Blog 5: Analyse my experience of presenting our own research

The presentation skill can be improved but it takes time and need to be patience. There are several steps that we need to be following in order to improve it. After I done this presentation I realize that I still need to improve a lot on this skill. Some of my team member is quite familiar with public speaking. They gave me some advice in term of the flow and the voice tone. At the time when I was nervous my voice was shaking that loss me the confident. I followed the step that may helpful with my future presentation. Firstly, do the research and find extra information, which may be useful during the question and answer section. The more you do the research the more you look professional and sound like a knowledgeable on the subject. Secondly, know your audience, this step will help you to clearly see what type of information you will deliver and the technique you will be use. Thirdly, planning for the time, as there are the time limits of each presentation. Try to make it out on time, if it too long it may be bored for the audiences. Fourthly, create an interesting slides show. This could bring the interest to the audiences, the graph may also use to create more visualize. Fifthly, the structures of the presentation in term of logical and well organize of the structure. Lastly, practicing on the speech, memorize word for word is not necessary and it will not help during the presentation. Remember the key idea and talk as nature, this will further help with the flow.

Blog 4: Analyse my experience of collecting and analysing data

Data collection and data analysis help our group to further understand the target customers in term of their wants and preferences. The result is really helps our group to come up with the decision of opening the coffee shop. During we do the data collection we realize that planning process is very important as it is determined the reason of data collected. We have to think far behind like after we complete the survey what kind of information we going to get, what those information will indicate and how it will help us to draw up the decision.

Personally, data collection is one of the effective tools to understand the target customers. As well as it is really helpful in term of analysis. Many small companies use this method to get into the customers mind so it gives a direction for the company. For example, our group found out that majority of young to mature stages people tend to have coffee and visit coffee shop dairy. This indicates that young to mature group are still demanding for a coffee shop. Furthermore, they concern about the ambience and location. Therefore, the new coffee shop like us need to be concerned about these factors in order to attract these young to mature customers.

Designing a questionnaire

After I experienced the questionnaire design, I found that designing the questionnaire is not easy. As there are several criteria that we must concern in order to achieve the best results from the respondents. Firstly, we set the objective of the survey and follow it to form up the questions. Secondly, developing of the questions which included the grammar checking and the sentence structures. Thirdly, order it in the meaningful place and ensure the professional outlook of the questionnaire. However, some adjustment has been made, as some of the questions were not effective. I did the survey twice in Thailand, before set up the business and after the business was operated. The result was generated differently, the questions of the survey were adjusted according to result needs.

The questionnaire is very useful for starting up the business as it helps to understand the customer wants and needs. Those will allow the owner to meet their need and it will help to form up the strategy to meet that want. However, I did the research about the survey and I found out that the methods of survey are not only face, to face, but it also has the website such as Monkey survey, the site used to create the questionnaire and sent it through online respondents. Another thing that I learned is when creating a question, it should be easy and simple, straight right forward to answer. The other recommendation is about the variety of questions because it will grab the attention of the respondents.

Literature Review

During week 4 of the study, me and my group mates were assigned to write literature review in order to know the demand of coffee shops in Liverpool street and to see how feasible would it be to open a coffee shop targeting young professionals in the area.

Even though, I used to write literature review when I was doing my first dissertation few years ago, I felt that I still need to practice more in researching skills and academic writing methods as there are many assignments and another dissertation within my further courses. However, after I completed the literature review I found that it is extremely important to select the reliable sources from internet as there are many blogs, Wike sites and personal websites where anybody could published their own piece of works into it. Therefore, we must select the sources carefully. I also found that the search engines that the teacher suggested in the class were effective such as passport, locate and Mintel.

I also realized that an opportunity to write the literature review in the beginning of term 1 would benefit my academic writing skills, reading skills as well as paraphrasing skills which will be necessary for the future assignments and dissertation.

Week-1 29/4/15

Before I came to study MBA International Marketing at Coventry London campus, I had no motivation to continue my study because my last graduation was about three years ago. After I graduated BA from hotel Management University in Switzerland, I had a chance to work in various hotels & restaurants in different countries and finally I opened my own restaurant in Thailand. This is why I felt that I do not want to waste my time being in University anymore.

However, I decided to do MBA degree because my father, he forced me to study as he needed me to take his position in the near future.

As first week of term 1 has already passed, I have totally changed my mind. I feel that I have more motivation to study after I have written skill audit and PDP papers. I found that I need to improve many skills in order to be successful business man in the future such as communication skills (speaking and written). Moreover, I just realized that I am always too-confident when I am trying to do something and I also have very strong opinion. It means that I am rarely listen to what other people thinks. Therefore, I have set the steps to get rid of any weaknesses in the certain amount of time.

Nevertheless, I found that I feel shy when I am speaking in public or giving presentation because English is my second language. So, I am afraid that people may not understand from what I’ve said. Additionally, responsibility, time management, problem solving and analytical skills are very important skills that I still need to develop as soon as possible in order to achieve in course assignments and future businesses.

However, it is not just to reflect the student’ strengths and weaknesses but it gives students understand how to develop it. What activities that students should participate and what support/resources could use in order to develop their skills. I think these two tasks are very useful for starting up new life in campus. So, students can see their own objectives and drive them to reach their goal in the future.
